Overview
Acquired by Discord, Sentropy will be integrated into its existing toolkit to protect users and shape content moderation. Currently, I'm assigned to enhance the front-end design and usability of the core pages of the product.

Context
We began working with Sentropy to reimagine their platform, focusing on improving the UX, interaction design, and enhancing the overall UI. Our goal was to create a seamless and intuitive experience that better aligned with Sentropy’s vision and users' needs. Beyond the platform redesign, we also overhauled the Sentropy website, moving away from traditional SaaS conventions with an emotionally driven, storytelling-focused approach that captured the company’s mission and impact.
Process
Originally, the Sentropy team developed an advanced spreadsheet-like UI for moderators to action problematic content for online communities. Despite their solid user base at the time, Sentropy wanted to enhance the user experience through better visuals and flow.

After gathering user feedback, I redesigned the pages further. Subtle tweaks to the visual language improved accessibility and differentiation, ensuring all colors met WCAG standards for contrast. Outside of design system adjustments, I also re-evaluated the user experience; adding dynamic filtering options increased efficiency and a revamped progress dashboard gave moderators an overview of their contributions.

Features
We worked on transforming the software into an interactive, real-time experience. To gamify the content moderation system, we introduced a color-coded progress bar that visually tracked progress: giving moderators a sense of accomplishment as they worked on problematic content.
Final Designs
A refined color-coded system categorizes content by type ensures quick identification and prioritization. Enhanced filtering and sorting options provide flexibility for navigating reports. These designs balance functionality and user experience, reducing cognitive load while empowering moderators to create safer online spaces.

Acquisition
Discord acquired Sentropy as part of its commitment to enhancing user safety. This move builds on Discord's efforts to combat abuse since cracking down after Charlottesville.
With over 150M monthly users and 19M communities, Discord's scale poses significant moderation challenges, requiring collaboration between volunteers and internal teams.

Marketing
To further support Sentropy’s growth, we designed creative assets that brought the product’s capabilities to life. These assets were integral to their storytelling efforts, appearing on the website, in marketing campaigns, customer demos, and investor presentations. By tying the product’s functionality directly to its narrative, we helped Sentropy resonate with a wider audience and strengthen their market presence.

Takeaways
Redesigning a platform dedicated to fostering safer online spaces has challenged me to think deeply about how design can support such an important mission. This project, while already a significant milestone, still holds untapped potential. Looking back, I realize we could have gained even more valuable insights by involving users earlier in the process to better understand their needs and perspectives. Recently, we uncovered an exciting opportunity to enhance the platform through humanized summaries—providing clear, concise insights upfront before users dive deeper into the data. This idea has the potential to make complex information more intuitive and actionable. I’m excited to explore how it can shape the platform as we continue refining and expanding its capabilities.
Sentropy remains a project worth reflecting on for its unique challenges, user-centered goals, and ongoing development. It’s exciting to think about how much further it can evolve, and I look forward to continuing this work and learning through the process.
